Facebook Reels
+15% Community Engagement
Engage more with Reels by discovering the hottest moments through mapped viewer reactions at key points.

Overview
This feature allows people to see when other people reacted to a reel, and what emoji they used. Dragging along the progress bar will reveal a graph that maps when people reacted.
This project takes Facebook's widely popular emoji reacts, and capitalizes on its uniqueness, to give Facebook reels a memorable touch that sets it apart from other short form content platforms.

Empathy, Incentive, and Facebook's Mission
Facebook prides itself on community building and shared experiences. The incentive to for this lies behind instinctual empathy. "How do other people feel about this reel". "How do my friends feel". This relies on a very natural way of creating experience. The inclusion of emoji reacts gives users the opportunity to understand how their community feels without having to skim through the comments and like counts.
Better communicated feelings also gives creators more applied data on what exactly in their videos, their reels, are making people feel what.
Project Objectives
Short form content is built upon seamless experience. It's important to consider how we can add this feature without obstructing the experience that is already there. Facebook emojis were successful because they were easy to access, and combined the simplicity of liking a post while hinting at the emotional depth and effort a comment would have had. This features is intended to be just as easy to see as it is to contribute to.

New Reels Layout: Pinning the description elements to the bottom and interaction elements to the right simplifies the experience.

Mapped Reactions: The graph is higher where users tended to react. Common emojis also pop out more.
